Please note, to ensure a prompt start for your tour. We ask that you come to our meeting point at Hali Country Hotel at least 20 minutes before your tour start time.

You might have come to realise, that Iceland is one of those countries where there are plenty of things to see and do. It’s sometimes hard to plan ahead and work out what you’re going to do next.

We are sure that you won’t want to miss out on your time here. But don’t worry we are here to help you. Not only on the glacier but happy to help you with your Iceland trip.

Here are a few ideas how you can make the most of your time when booking your Glacier Walk tour. A mixture of a few things you can do both before and after your time with Glacier Adventure.

What to do before your tour?

If you book on our 9.30am tour, we recommend that you stay close to the meeting point (Hali Country Hotel) the night before. This means you can take advantage of the beautiful scenery late at night and early in the morning.

Öræfajökull and Fellsfjall

Even if you’re on the 12.30pm tour. It’s still worth staying close to ensure you have a relaxed start to the day.

A short distance from the hotel is ‘Diamond Beach’ which is simply breath-taking at any time of day. However, watching the sunset and/or sunrise is a truly beautiful and memorable experience. So take advantage of being close to this idyllic location and be sure to check it out.

Across the road from ‘Diamond Beach’ is the famous Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Again, this is quieter earlier in the morning and late at night so you can sometimes have this stunning scenery all to yourself.

Re-energise at Hali Country Hotel’s restaurant

Hali Country Hotel is not just a hotel. They have a small restaurant serving meals, hot and cold drinks, plus cakes too. So feel free to pop in to enjoy a drink before your tour.

Afterwards, you might even be tempted to try out their ‘Day Menu’ or ‘Evening Menu’ depending on when you’re tour finishes. We are sure you’ll have worked up an appetite after your walk on the glacier.

Some of our guests say they think part of it is the excitement and adrenalin whilst you’ve hiking. And the only way to combat that is by treating yourself to some cake at least!

Of course, if you want something healthier we love the hearty homemade Icelandic lamb meat soup, served with fresh bread. And there are plenty more traditional Icelandic meals to try.

Check out their menus here: Day Menu or Evening Menu

Visit Þórbergssetur museum and cultural centre

Now that you’ve gained some new found energy. Be sure to visit Þórbergssetur. And read about one of Iceland’s most famous authors from the 20th century.

Want to relax and take in the views?

Now we know after your Glacier Walk you might want to reflect on your experience. It’s sometimes difficult when there’s so much beautiful scenery, to stop and take some time for yourselves. Well, we have the perfect option if you’d like to do that.

Head east from Hali Country Hotel. A 40-minute drive, about 52 km/ 32 miles later you’ll come across signs from the Ring Road for Hoffell. After following the gravel path, you’ll then come across a sign for ‘Hoffel Hot Pots’.

Hot Pots at Hoffell

There’s a car parking area and 5 individual hot tubs that you can hop into. Take your time and relax whilst enjoying the wonderful scenery.

Please note there is no changing area here. The hot tubs are based on an honesty system. 1000 ISK per person so be sure to take some change with you.
