Hiking a glacier in Iceland – All you need to know

Walking on a glacier isn’t an activity most of our visitors have ever done before visiting Iceland. There are only a few in the world and Iceland is lucky enough to have Europe’s largest glacier, Vatnajökull.

Our ‘Glacier Walk’ is a very popular activity for tourists visiting during the summer months. Where we take small groups of up to 12 people at a time onto the glacier. We offer the tour for a limited time each year, from 1st of May – 31st of October. However, we have plenty of more activities in the winter months like exploring ice caves!

You might be wondering how on earth you are able to walk on ice. And more importantly, without falling over!

Our profession guides aim to make you feel at ease during the ‘Glacier Walk’. By offering you continuous advice and support we want to ensure you have an enjoyable and memorable experience on the glacier.

But, I’m sure you still have many more questions.

Fellow travel writer Becky Angell from Becky The Traveller recently booked on one of our ‘Glacier Walks’. She has shared her answers to the common questions you might have before booking your tour. Including what safety equipment is included, what you should wear and most importantly how to keep safe on the glacier?
