Glacier Adventure Summer Tour – Glacier Walk and Ice Exploring
What is the different between Glacier Adventure Summer Tour and Glacier Walk tour?
It is a full day glacier walk with ice-climbing. This tour is more adventures, you spend more time on the glacier, it’s like a small glacier-expedition. You’ll try some ice climbing and get the chance of being lowered in a blue moulin and climb back up secured in a line. No experience is needed as our guides will teach you everything needed. The ice climbing is optional, no one will be forced to do it.
On the glacier itself, often smaller caves and ice tunnels are formed during the summer. If we have any of these formation we will take you to see them.
Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that you will always see a cave but your glacier guide will do his/her best to show you one of these interesting formations.
We visit Breiðamerkurjökull, one of Vatnajökull biggest outlet glaciers located within the Vatnajökull National Park.
We start the tour from Glacier Adventures meeting point, Hali. From there we drive our super jeeps to the edge of the glacier. That takes about 30 minutes. From the car parking lot we hike around 1 km to the glacier where we put on the crampons and get an introduction to the equipment and safety rules needed to explore the glacier. Crampons make it easy to walk on the ice and explore it. Other security items include harnesses, helmets and ice axes.
We spend about 4-5 hours on the glacier, walking and exploring the magical glacier features. Remember to bring your lunch with you.
This tour is rated moderate. The age limit is 14 years old.
There will be enough time for great photo opportunities. The tour can take between 5 – 6 hours.
You get to know the surrounding area from a local point of view. On this tour we will experience natural unique ice formation, for example, ice-moulin, ice tunnel, spectacular blue ice walls, and even the start of a small ice cave formatting.
One of the most unique aspects of our trip is that the glacial environment is in a constant state of movement and change, meaning no one tour is the same as the next. The glacier periodically forms ice caves, blue ice tunnels, moulins, and other incredible features as it melts. Our expert guides will determine if any such ice features are safe to explore on the day of the tour and may add them to the trip as a bonus.
This tour has a maximum of 8 participants to make sure that everyone can enjoy the adventures we are going to explore.
The tour is intended for those who want to spend a day outside walking, exploring the ice, talking and creating unforgettable moments with friends and family.
The tour takes approximately 5 to 6 hours (4-5 hour on the glacier), including drive back and forth from our pick-up location at Hali reception. This tour is moderated and can be done by most travelers. You don’t have to have an ice climbing experience for this tour.
Appropriate footwear and suitable outdoor clothing must be worn at all times. Glacier Adventure reserves the rights to refuse participation if not correctly equipped since this will put the clients at risk. In case of refusal, refund will not be possible.
