Looking for some winter outdoor activity in Iceland?
The Blue Ice Cave Adventure is perhaps something for you.
You get to experience a unique Ice Cave in the wonders of Vatnajökull glacier, Europe´s largest ice cap. We take you away from the crowds and off the beaten path where you can breathe in the fresh Icelandic air and to explore some unspoilt places.
This tour is suitable for those who want to visit a more isolated ice cave and more difficult to access. This tour offers you great photo opportunities and an unforgettable experience.
Ice caves are usually formed by water or rivers and can shift and alter with the movement of the glacier. They are not a constant phenomenon but melt away and disappear during summer time.
The tour difficulty level is medium/hard and it takes about 4,5-5 hours. We have to walk for 1 hour to the cave on gravel, rough terrain and glacier and 1 hour back to the car.
We secure you up in ropes on the hardest part. We have to walk down steps that have been made on the ice and therefore we recommend all participants to be stable on their feet and we don´t recommend people with knee problem or people with a fear of heights to take this tour.
Good outdoor clothing is highly recommended for this tour
- Hiking boots (can be rented)
- Warm clothing, waterproofed if it´s raining
- Thin hat and gloves
We provide all necessary glacier equipment for the trip, such as crampons, harness, and helmet.
Our guides are informative, friendly and professionals. All of them are trained glacier guides. Our goal is to share our love and knowledge of the region with our clients and to safely introduce them to some of Iceland´s most stunning sights.
We look forward seeing you and guide you through the wonders of Vatnajökull glacier.

Our meeting point
The tour starts at Hali Country Hotel reception, only 10 minutes east of Glacier Lagoon/Jökulsárlón. There you can find a restaurant, restroom facilities and museum. Hali is a mixed farm with sheep’s, cows and horses. Hali is also a fish farm.
It´s enjoyable to sit at the restaurant and see the real life of locals while waiting for the tour departure or after an amazing experience with Glacier Adventure.
Special thanks to Sergey Ivannikov from the Russian American media for taking most of the pictures and allowing us to use them.
We hope to see you soon
