Below are a summary of our courses as well as shadowing opportunities:

Glacier Course Iceland AIMG

This is a unique and challenging 4 day (40 hours) course, with an optional 1-day add-on to reinforce basic technical components, and provides a foundation for guide candidates to start their guiding career.  This course is taught to the AIMG (Association of Icelandic Mountain Guides) standard. Signing up for this course will also give students access to training videos that will cover topics like crevasse rescue, abseiling, and ascending. Following the successful completion of this course, students will have the opportunity to shadow a Glacier Adventure professional guide during a tour with clients.

Glacier 1 Pre-Course (Add-on to Jökla 1)

Date: See events on Glacier Adventures Facebook
Cost: 10,000ISK
Ratio: 1:6 (minimum 4)

One of the most common concerns about Glacier 1 (Jökla 1) is that the 4-day course was too short. This can be especially true for students who do not have previous technical knowledge (knots, ropework, etc). In order to address this concern, we’ve added an optional (but highly recommended) 1-day pre-course, which aims to help build a foundation of technical knowledge.

Hard Ice  2 & 3 Skill Building

Duration: See events on Glacier Adventures Facebook
Cost: 75,000ISK
Ratio: 1:6 (minimum 4)

Glacier Course Iceland AIMG

This course was designed for both students who are progressing to Jökla 2 or 3 and those who have already taken those courses and want to reinforce their technical knowledge. We will cover technical components like the crevasse rescue using a Micro Traxion or similar, leading successful ice climbing trips, as well as techniques for managing terrain (fixed lines, short pitching, body belays, etc). We will also focus on honing your ice climbing skills so you can better instruct your clients.

Shadowing: Following the successful completion of Hard Ice 1 (Jokla 1), the student will have the option to shadow a professional Glacier Adventure guide during a tour with clients. This is a first in our guiding industry here in Iceland and allows you to see the real-world application of your course. You will be able to shadow up to two courses, which could include something like a general glacier walk and an Ice climbing tour.

Multimedia instructional content: We will be creating a video library starting with Hard Ice 1 technical components like crevasse rescue as well as abseiling and ascending. In the coming months, we will be expanding that library to include Hard Ice 2 techniques and strategies as well. So stay tuned…
