OVERVIEW

Explore Southeast Iceland with @h0rdur

Join local guide and professional photographer Hörður Kristleifsson for a private day trip. This day tour provides door-to-door pickup and drop-off from your lodging anywhere between the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon area and Höfn.

We map out each day by checking the morning wind speed, cloud cover, and rain forecasts to locate the clearest skies and best conditions across Southeast Iceland. This flexible approach is the best way to handle shifting Icelandic weather, ensuring your private day out is relaxed and completely personalized to your interests.

This tour is designed for regular travelers, families, or couples who want to fully experience Iceland’s landscapes the local way, without worrying about taking the photos themselves. Whether you are exploring with family, celebrating a honeymoon, or planning a private wedding photoshoot, we can tailor the route to suit your group perfectly.

Why Book This Private Tour?

  • Professional Photos of Your Group Included: Leave the job of capturing your travel memories to an expert. Hörður will use a professional camera and drone throughout the day to take stunning photos of you against the dramatic Icelandic landscape.
  • Bring Your Own Gear if You Want: While this is a relaxed sightseeing tour for everyone, you are more than welcome to bring your own camera, drone, or phone. Hörður is right there to show you the best angles, help you fly in tricky conditions, and point out hidden spots.
  • Total Route Flexibility: We monitor the weather forecast and plan our day accordingly to ensure you have a great experience.
  • Private and Unhurried: Because this day is exclusive to your group, there are no strict timetables. We move completely at your pace, staying at your favorite locations for as long as you want.

Note: Images displayed show potential locations only. To prioritize the best light and conditions, our final route remains flexible. Because Icelandic weather is unpredictable, not all visited locations are pictured, and not all pictured locations are guaranteed. This adaptable approach is necessary to ensure we are always in the right place at the right time.

Meet Your Guide!

Hörður Kristleifsson is a local guide and professional adventure photographer. Born and raised in Iceland, he sees the Arctic as more than just a destination; it is his heritage and his home.

Over the years, Hörður has spent thousands of hours exploring and documenting the most remote corners of the island. He has navigated every seasonal shift and regional weather scenario imaginable, from tracking new volcanic eruptions to traveling through the strong winds along the southern coast. For tour guests, this background means traveling with an authentic local operator who knows exactly how to read the elements safely, keeping your group comfortable while guiding you to hidden vantage points away from the crowded tour bus routes.

As a private guide, Hörður focuses on a relaxed, down-to-earth approach. His goal is to make sure your group has a fun, great day out in the field while he captures high-end photos of your journey, ensuring you leave the Southeast with an incredible gallery of memories.

Itinerary

This is a private, 8-hour day trip designed to maximize your time out in the landscape. We stay out exploring or in transit the entire day, stopping only to grab food and coffee. For most bookings, this runs with morning pickup and evening drop-off, but we can easily customize the start times via email to align with the best seasonal daylight.

  • Pickup & Strategy Briefing: We can collect you directly from any hotel, guesthouse, or rental property between Jökulsárlón and Höfn, or meet you at our primary base camp. Over a quick look at the morning weather maps, we finalize our route for the day and head straight to our first location.
  • Exploring the Landscape: We spend the day moving efficiently between coastal landscapes and glacial viewpoints. Depending on the weather, we explore the variety of stunning landscapes that Southeast Iceland has to offer. Glaciers, coastal peaks, canyons, waterfalls, and much more. Hörður will actively document your journey at each key stop.
  • Lunch & Coffee Stops: We adapt our food break entirely to the flow of the day, pausing briefly at a regional café or using packed food to keep transition times short when we are tracking a clear weather window.
  • Evening Drop-off: We drop you off directly at your lodging or rental car after a day full of adventures, with a gallery of high-end professional images sent your way afterward.

Our pickup and departure times are completely flexible and customized around your schedule, your goals, and the shifting Arctic seasons:

  • Darker Winter Months: Daylight is brief. We plan our 8-hour window carefully to ensure we catch both the sunrise and the sunset within it. Depending on cloud cover and solar activity, we can also adjust the schedule to track the northern lights.
  • Summer Months: Daylight is continuous. To capture the best possible light, we can run this tour as an overnight trip during the midnight sun. This allows us to shoot the low-angle sunset around midnight and the sunrise around 2:00 AM or 3:00 AM, while completely bypassing the daytime tour bus crowds at major locations. Timing is fully customizable and tailored to your photography focus.

Our operational schedule always revolves around chasing the cleanest light conditions. Because this trip is fully private, the final pickup time is completely up to you. Fill out our booking form with your preferred dates, and we will coordinate the perfect start time for you.
